Solar For East is a student-led initiative dedicated to introducing more sustainable energy solutions to the East campus of the United World College of Southeast Asia (UWCSEA). In early September 2017, fourteen passionate Grade 9 students, along with the Facilities Department, convened to address the school’s significant carbon footprint and explore the potential for a solar panel project on campus. They developed a proposal, which was presented to the Board in November 2017 and subsequently approved.
Aligned with the UWC mission, this project aims to raise community awareness and foster a collective spirit regarding clean energy and climate change. It also provides students with the opportunity to lead and effect positive change for the planet. The team is currently working on installing 1,130 solar panels across four different locations over the next few years to reduce the school’s reliance on unsustainable energy sources and mitigate their environmental impact.
Our supplied solar structures have demonstrated that even high school students can successfully construct them, thanks to their intuitive design and certification for safe installation on reinforced concrete roofs (RC roofs).
This installation, completed in partnership with UWC and Eigen Energy, was featured in Today newspaper.
