One of the few resorts in Asia to transition entirely to solar and battery power, Gangga Island now boasts a hybrid energy system in collaboration with Right People Renewable Energy (RPRE). This innovative setup has enabled the resort to eliminate reliance on diesel generators completely. Recognized with the “Energy Storage Project of the Year” award in June 2019 in Seoul, Korea, it stands as a testament to advancements in both renewable energy and hospitality industries. Notably, this initiative promises to replace diesel generators, thereby enhancing air and water quality on the island. Additionally, marine life in the vicinity stands to benefit from significantly reduced noise pollution. Throughout the construction phase, local community members were employed, providing them with valuable opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Furthermore, the resort’s ballasted solar structures are anchored underground using local mineral stones, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint by minimising the need for heavy construction materials to secure the panels against strong winds.
