BATU BATU PRIVATE ISLAND

At Batu Batu, they firmly believe in the power of private sector tourism to drive positive change by safeguarding and rejuvenating the delicate biodiversity of our marine park. Their aim is to craft immersive tourism experiences that not only leave guests enlightened and impassioned about environmental conservation but also foster a deeper appreciation and reverence for nature. Additionally, they recognise the value of tourism revenues to local communities and allocate a portion towards biodiversity protection and revitalisation efforts.

Since its inception in 2015, Batu Batu has been actively involved in sea turtle conservation, establishing the first privately-operated sea turtle hatchery in Johor state in collaboration with the Marine Parks Department and the Department of Fisheries. To date, they have successfully relocated 215 nests and released 13,802 endangered Green and critically endangered Hawksbill turtle hatchlings.

In 2019, their commitment to conservation led to the transformation of Turtle Watch Camp into Tengah Island Conservation (TIC), now housed at the Tunku Abdul Jalil Conservation Centre at Batu Batu. TIC operates as an independent, registered non-profit dedicated to biodiversity management, staffed by a team of dedicated scientists. Expanding beyond sea turtle conservation, TIC now encompasses initiatives such as coral reef preservation, marine debris mitigation, and community engagement.

Batu Batu remains a steadfast supporter of TIC, providing essential funding for ongoing projects and pledging all profits from resort dive and nature activities towards conservation efforts. As members of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and The Long Run, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of sustainable tourism practices.

We are fortunate to provide the solar infrastructure for this renowned island, demonstrating Batu Batu’s dedication to sustainability alongside our partners at Canopy Power. The solar mounts endure exposure to strong winds and sea salt, and with regular maintenance, they are engineered to endure for 25 years.
