The first installation of its kind to be deployed atop a Malaysian reservoir and pumping station compound, led by Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP), features an iconic 1.5MWp solar system installed and connected at 11KVA by renowned PSB Energy and Pensolar Sdn Bhd.
The solar system was installed on the enclosed Bukit Dumbar R2 and R3 reservoirs. Previously, the roof was overgrown with weeds, making maintenance difficult, and its proximity to a swamp created a high mosquito breeding ground, posing a health risk to workers. PBAPP swiftly addressed these concerns, prioritising worker welfare by opting for the solar deployment. The solar deployment site, located just off the coast of the Strait of Malacca, requires solar structures capable of withstanding the high winds and freak storms to which Penang is exposed. Fortunately, our solar structures meet these stringent design requirements, fulfilling the client’s needs effectively.
Although the estimated yield of the 1.5MWp system is 175,000 kWh out of the average 864,197 kWh usage from TNB, this installation significantly reduces dependency and paves the way for a greener future and cost savings for the local community.
