BigBlue, a leading name in cold storage logistics in the Philippines, has made a major leap toward sustainability with the launch of its state-of-the-art facility, BigBlue 7, in Cebu. This cutting-edge facility, standing over 35 meters tall, is situated in a high wind-load region, necessitating advanced engineering solutions to ensure durability and efficiency.
For its rooftop solar installation, BigBlue partnered with Aerocompact to utilize their SN2 solar structure, specifically designed to endure wind loads of up to 2.4KN/m². The roof’s 5-degree tilt required meticulous engineering to manage sliding forces effectively. Due to the unique design constraints, the project incorporated smaller solar modules, each measuring less than 2250 mm in length and 1250 mm in width. The membrane roof further influenced the design and choice of materials to ensure compatibility and long-term performance.
The project was successfully completed in collaboration with local partners Sune Solar Technology and SolarWarehouse. Thanks to efficient planning and execution, the installation was finalized on schedule in Q4 2023.
Refrigerated warehouses like BigBlue 7 are among the highest electricity consumers in the commercial building sector. By integrating solar power, BigBlue is significantly lowering its energy costs while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. This initiative positions BigBlue as a pioneer in adopting green energy within the Philippine cold storage industry.
